Windows 7 Desktop lock-up?
  • waterxm04waterxm04 November 2010
For some reason once every 3+ weeks for no real reason; My desktop will become unresponsive, I can use the start menu to navigate around so it's more of a pain in the ass then anything else. However, Something has to be wrong, Anyone have had this problem or know of a solution. I literally just can't select any icons, but everything else seems to run fine.

I don't think I've had this issue, but I have absolutely nothing on my desktop and never use it. I've even moved my trash can into the taskbar.

Do you keep your computer running that whole time?

No not more then 8-20 hours at a time, but my only thought was I use a theme that changes through pictures on my background . That could probably cause the problem

Do you mean you can't click on icons on your desktop? Never heard of that one..

Do you have a roommate? He might be pulling a prank on you where you take a screenshot of the desktop, delete all the icons, and then set that pic as the wallpaper so it looks like your icons are there but they are just part of the pic.

You should probably delete your registry. That should clear it up.

    p.s. Please don't do this.

It's a process running or not running is my guess, don't have any idea which one, but I can fix it by forcing a shutdown then canceling just before, then I can access the icons, It's wierd. No my roomates can barely figure out how to configure xbox live let alone get into a locked computer when im not around.
