    meh.

    Then you should run anti-virus.

/I use Avast! It works for me, but I haven't tried much else... since it works for me.

Avg 8 (only if you disable the internet protection because it nukes the internet of half the computers its installed on)

Avg pro 7 is what i run.
  • PheylanPheylan August 2009
I went with BitDenfender. We'll see how it goes.

use symantec corporate. it's smaller than most and has better detection than all free av distros out there.

bitdefender is the worst anti virus i've ever seen. it was installed on some of my gf's bosses computers and trying to remove it felt like trying to remove malware.

i know this is late but i'd never even heard of bitdefender until a few days ago.

i don't understand why you wouldn't go with avg or avast, two progs that i've seen nothing but positive reviews for. i use avast myself.

Well, I asked for reviews of programs and all I really got was a top 10 list, with BitDefender at the top. Seemed like the logical choice.

So far I haven't had any issues with it, it runs in the background, doesn't interfere with any programs and hasn't let me catch any viruses or malware, or at least hasn't found any after the fact. The only downside I've had so far is that I haven't found an option to automatically scan my computer at a certain time. I used to have my computer scanned every day at 4 am. Oh well.

Knowing this about bitdefender ( I didn't before ), I'd toss out a recommendation that you change it up. I *know* avast lets you do a scheduled scan and I almost guarantee that if you've been running anti-virus for this long and it hasn't tossed up an alert that it's missing stuff.

    my $.02

Really? I've had a computer my entire life and ran windows up until about a year and a half ago, and in all those years I never got a virus on my computer or even had one caught by my virus scan.

Edit: I should clarify that this only applied to viruses; I ran an adaware scan once a month that yielded a half dozen spyware items at a time.

I get a lot of software pushes on my work machine. And avast catches them every time. I may be an exceptional case. Not viruses, but it indicates that avast is at least watching. I dunno, maybe I'm paranoid.

Regardless the point stands that if you can't schedule scans, your anti-virus is balls.

I get warnings on occasion that a site may be harmful. But, I have a pretty limited number of web pages that I visit these days anyway. I can probably count on two hands the number of pages I visit on a typical week, just don't have time for it. And I know none of those pages have anything that would be considered malware. I don't use services like bit torrent or limewire. I don't think any of my computers have ever gotten a virus.

And to settle your nerves, I did some searching in BitDefender and you can schedule scans, so it now Deep Scan every morning at 4 am.
  • ScabdatesScabdates September 2009

That all does settle nerves. I hadn't ever heard much about BD before, so I'm not pretending to know if it's no good. mmmmmm DeepScan....
  • November 2009 Edit
ive got exactly what you need. avg anti virus. its free and has liveupdates. i actually prefer this over norton because it alerts you instantly if youve gotten a virus. happy porn surfing
