    Seriously, Lockheed Martin? Who is going to pick up the slack for military development?

    Lockheed. Duh.

    I refer you all to the wonderful law that is the Anti-Pinkerton Act. It states simply that the government can't hire the Pinkertons or "any similar organization." Nobody cares about the "similar organization" part, so the law just outlawed the use of the Pinkertons. Same basic reason too. The Pinkertons were viewed as a corrupt organization by the population (because they were engaged in union busting, so it's sort of different). To preserve the public's trust in them, the government promised not to deal with those shady fuckers any more.
