PSU Help
  • JAmmYJAmmY November 2007
I just got a new PSU today. Checked the specs, should work, it is all hooked up (pretty sure correctly) and it won't turn on. Read in my mobo manual that if the specifications aren't correct it won't turn on, checked the specs again, they are good.

Any suggestions? more info to help?

    Any help is appreciated.

Try a different power cord and outlet.

Is there a switch on the back of the PSU?

Yes, and it is in the on position. I've also tried toggling it.

Tried taking it all apart and putting it all back together.

There is a light on my mobo that is flashing.

Bout all the new info I have so far.

is the PSU turning on? check tis fan or light, it will have an indicator of some sort. basically, is your computer not turning on, or your PSU not turning on? there's a difference. and don't account the mobo light as anything yet.

The PSU is not turning on either I guess. The fan isn't running, and I didn't see a light, I will check the light thing when I get home.

    Yeah, I double-checked like 3 times.

    either:

    1) your comp isnt even connected to the power outlet (i doubt lol)
    2) You are connecting the wrong cables from the PSU (for example connecting the outlet to the vid card instead of something else).
    3) Your psu is busted.

I hope it is the PSU is busted is true haha.

My connections are, the 24 pin on the mobo and some 4 pin one I can't think of atm, then one more to the mobo for internal sounds. Then I have my CD-ROM, HD, Vid Card, and 2 fans hooked to the PSU.

There is a light flashing on my mobo so I am to ASSUME power is going. No fan runs on the PSU tho, and I actually hear a faint buzz when I put my ear up to the PSU (if that helps any).

    So busted? haha

check if there is a voltage type switch on the PSU, usually near the power cable. possibly a red toggle that should say 115V.

    Quick question.

I noticed on my NEW PSU that it was ATX12V v2.2

While on my old one it was ATX12V v2.0

Then I checked my mobo book, and the mobo takes ATX12V v2.0

Could it be the newer version that makes it not work? Or should that be irrelevant?

try powering only the motherboard and the cpu. it could be just a shitty psu with low rails. if that doesnt work, then your psu is a brick.
