Full specs, under 2.5k without a monitor, no speakers, and no operating system. I want to see what you all think the best computer for the price is.

11 dollars short, even. Of course, you could probably get by with DDR2800 and go for 4 gigs or better, but I'd rather get the newer standard with less of it.

i dont understand why you'd spend 2.5k on a computer
  • carto0ncarto0n January 2008
i believe his request was for us to spec out the best computer we could for under 2.5k......nowhere did he mention he is going to get one for that price...

Spring for two 15k raptor drives that you can setup in raid 0 (on top of a traditional large capacity 7200 rpm drive for general storage which you probably already have). Don't do a mid-tower; the amount of hardware that you're putting into a machine of that cost is going to run really hot.

you're, Court. You know better than this.

I don't think he was subtracting the rebate. I didn't see him do it anywhere else.

Mungo Working Class hero lists a very good computer... but. I would recommend getting the Q6600 and not dropping an extra $250 for .26 gigs. The 2.4 ghz chip OC's to 3.0 without a voltage increase. Also... scratch the GTX, you have an SLI board, get 2 8800 GT overclocked editions of some sort. ~500 - 600 for those. MUCH better performance than a single GTX. That motherboard he recommended is like the best one you can buy. Also don't forget that Intel will be releasing its new set of quad cores shortly, and also Nvidia will be releasing its 9000 series of cards.

I'd avoid AMD at this point, as their quad core is expensive and not as good. Also their video card is not all that cut out for high end gaming. The 8800 video cards pull away with higher resolutions and higher settings. And an 8800 GT is the same price as the top radeon card.

    It's legendary.

    Buy it.
  • maliskmalisk January 2008
Get a new CPU fan heatsink
  • I tried to build it in such a way that there would be room to upgrade without removing anything, hence only one 8800.
