so. spore

tell me what you guys think after you play it for a while.
  • BillBill September 2008
Pretty neat so far. I'm only in the second part of the game, but thus far everything has been entertaining.
  • BlackLightBlackLight September 2008
Tribal and Civilization were a little shallow but I'm currently on space right now and holy shit there's a lot to do. overall good times
  • jimmah7jimmah7 September 2008
hard at work at college i see
  • BlackLightBlackLight September 2008
haha, i might or might not have gotten the game a bit earlier than today. ahem
  • jimmah7jimmah7 September 2008
I just noticed your music counts in your sig, do you walk around with your ipod jacked directly into your brain so you're listening to music every second of every day?

For the record, I wish I could do this.
  • GovernorGovernor September 2008
I have signatures turned off, so I can't see his minutes, but I think I listen to music for 12 hours a day. Does that compare?
  • BlackLightBlackLight September 2008
They're not minutes but play counts, i.e. 1 = 1 song. And those numbers date back to sept 05 lol. more about spore dammit! don't be jealous of my copious amounts of free time jimmah
  • jimmah7jimmah7 September 2008
oh i know they're song counts that makes it even longer. that list right there is 7,696 songs listened to at let's say oh 3 minutes a song you're telling me you've actually listened to 23,088 minutes of music? That's almost six weeks straight of music. and those are just the top 10? I'm far from jealous, i'm baffled really. and at gov, how can you listen to 12 hours of music a day? That shit would drive me insane. it's like listening to someone talk for 12 hours. how do you people not go insane?
  • Black+BalloonBlack Balloon September 2008
The answer to that lies in listening to better fucking music.
  • jimmah7jimmah7 September 2008
not really, i don't think any music even if were deemed to be the sounds of god himself speaking would be worth listening to for twelve hours
  • ebolaebola September 2008
what about these bad reviews regarding the DRM http://www.amazon.com/Spore-Pc/dp/B000FKBC...2553&sr=8-1

    Six weeks of straight music?

The count started at least 3 years ago...

Let's see. Yesterday at work I listened to The Cure: Disintigration, 1.5 hours; The Protomen: The Protomen, 1 hour; Dismember: Hate Campaign, 1.5 hours; Elliot Smith: Basement on a Hill, 1.5 hours; Dream Theater: Scenes from a Memory, 1.5 hours; and Lil Wayne: Da Carter 1 and 2, 3 hours

so 10 hours... and the only two similar albums were the carters. idk... I think blacklights on to something, maybe you just don't listen to enough music.

/Hadn't thought about how much music I listen to a day.
//Would rather listen to 8 hours of music while I code than phones ringing and shrill voices.
  • jimmah7jimmah7 September 2008
but haven't you guys considered that you listen to too much music?

if that counter works like other programs, it'll add 1 every time a song starts, so that distribution may be skewed.

the only music i could possibly listen to for 12 hours straight is the creed discography, which i listen to every morning and before bed

    The subjectivity makes me hurt...
  • jimmah7jimmah7 September 2008
yes gov it's my personal opinion, but have you guys ever even considered spending a day not listening to music?you might be blessed enough to have a job that lets you listen to music but not everyone can. i mean would any of you guys know what to do with your minds if it wasn't constantly being subdued by music. you'll probably hear lots of new things.
  • GovernorGovernor September 2008
That...doesn't make any sense. If I was sitting alone in a dark, sound-proof room, I could probably relate to what you're saying, but I that isn't the case. Music energizes, relaxes, promotes creative thinking, sets working rhythm, and serves as a social spring board for many people around an office that would otherwise have a hard time relating to their coworkers. Music, perhaps the most magnificent showcase of the genius of the human mind, helps to increase productivity and generally enriches the workplace.

I've never, in all of my life, heard of someone saying people should listen to less music. If everyone listened to more music, the world would be a much happier (not to mention entertaining) place.
  • jimmah7jimmah7 September 2008
well to each his own. anything other than classical and i can't concentrate on anything other than the music. at all.
  • jimmah7jimmah7 September 2008
    challenge!

listen to no music for one day
  • JAmmYJAmmY September 2008
    Spore is good.

This type of game should not be released during school. It should be released during the summer.
  • BlackLightBlackLight September 2008
more Spore! Also, I'm pretty disappointed with the Amazon ratings, everyone is focusing on the admittedly shitty DRM system and not the game itself, which is fairly sweet (4/5 at least).
  • BrianBrian September 2008
Played spore a bunch today and it was pretty fun for sure.

I will never buy it due to the restrictions placed on it by EA though. One login per computer? 3 installs and then I have to call long distance to attempt to get them to allow me to play my purchased product?

EA gets a big "Fuck You", and nothing else from me due to their anti-pirating bullshit.

I actually think that was funny.
  • GovernorGovernor September 2008
It does sound like a fun game, but I also don't think I'll be buying it because of the DRM associated with it. I tend to replay my games a lot over the years, and I really don't think I should have to jump over hurdles to do it.

Because some people live on music, I listen to music 24/7 I constantly have music on, I deal with things with music, study, relax, and all that shit. It's not hard to listen to music for that long and get counts like Blacklight, if I have been keeping track like he has, then I probably would have similar counts with certain artists.

    Spore:

I want to play it, but I'm going to wait a bit before I do. It looks fun though.
  • BlackLightBlackLight September 2008
One more thing, jimmah, I actually write about music as a job for my college newspaper and my website, so, uh, that's why too.

QFT. I still may buy it... but not open it. I'd reload...

  • ErlingErling September 2008
    I enjoyed it, didn't get very far in the space age yet though. One few things that bothered me;
    a) Tribal and Civilization stages. Useless. Warcraft II was a better RTS than the Tribal stage and there was this CTF game on some Action 100 cd I had when I was ten that was a better strategy game than the Civ stage.
image/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> The stages mean nothing to each other. The stuff you do as a "spore" mean nothing when you're in creature, tribal, civ or space. There's some special abilities doing things differently unlock but I never needed to use them anyway.
    c) No depth on any stage but space.
    d) All the space stage did was made me yearn to play CivIV and so I quit spore and installed CivIV and ended up playing that for 3 hours (one... more... turn).

The creature stage was immensely fun. Loved every second but the moment I got to Tribal I wanted to slit my wrists. I dunno, I should go back and play more of the space stage.

    But really this game went:
Fun and original (yay) -> Shitty RTS (qq) -> Shitty Civ knockoff (qqx100) -> overwhelming space exploration!

The space age felt like the real game they were making and I think the whole experience would've been more fun if they had put that much depth into every phase of the game. I felt like I was playing some weird Freelancer/Galactic Civilizations crossbreed!

Anyway, is this DRM junk why I don't need to have to CD in to play? I originally thought that was super cool, didn't realize it was part of some stupid shit from EA.

In other EA related news... anyone play NHL09?
  • NunesNunes September 2008
The space stage was advertised as a sandbox, and instead they keep you on a tight fucking schedule/budget. IDK. I was disappointed in the endgame.
